BAJAUR: Many Awami National Party (ANP) local leaders and members disapproved of the party’s new local cabinet, claiming it was formed through a selection process rather than through legitimate elections. They also stated that no party member was willing to accept the ‘undemocratically’ formed cabinet at any cost. Several ANP local leaders and workers, including Amjad Khan, Asad Khan, Akhtar Khan, Altaf Khan, and Dawood Khan, took to the media to assert that the majority of party members and senior leaders vehemently opposed the recent appointment of the party’s new cabinet because nearly all office-bearers were chosen through a selection process rather than through formal elections. They said that nearly every office holder had been in their current roles for the previous eight years, and that not a single party employee was part of the new cabinet. According to ANP’s most local leaders and workers, the majority of senior leaders and party members who made significant contributions to the party’s growth in the district were rejecting the party’s so-called new cabinet because all of the new members were people who had illegally held their positions for the previous eight years. They urged the party’s national and provincial leadership to revoke the formation of the local chapter cabinet and give careful consideration to the fictitiously established new cabinet for the upcoming four-year period. It merits a mention here that ANP local chapter on October 7 had announced its new district office-bearers for the next four years. The statement issued by the party had said that all party cabinet members were nominated through consultation and jirga system. It said that Malik Ishaq Khan, Sadiq Akbarjan, Dr Abdur Rahman and Sakhi Bahadur Khan were also chosen as vice president, deputy general secretary, information secretary and finance secretary respectively.
