INTRUSIVE FAMILIES

INTRUSIVE FAMILIES: In Pakistan’s tightly-knit, traditional society, family and relatives often exert a strong influ- ence on personal decisions, from career choices to marriage. This well-intentioned, but excessive interference often stifles individual growth, limiting one’s ability to pursue personal dreams and goals. Instead of empowering the next generation, constant comments, judgments and unwanted advice discourage inde-pendent thinking. It is high time we shifted our focus to respecting each person’s individuality and aspirations. Recognising and respecting personal boundaries can foster a healthier society where individuals are free to thrive without interference, building a more progressive and self-reliant community. Recently, trees were chopped down along Sharea Faisal and the road leading from there to the National Stadium and onwards as part of a plan to ensure security at an exhibition of arms and ammunition that was being held at the Expo Centre in Karachi. Truly, this was a significant setback to a city already grappling with rising temperatures as well as climate challenges. Could the city administration not deploy additional personnel or adopt alternative measures to ensure safety without compromising the environment? The government should reconsider the impact of such planning. It is essential to prioritise sustainable practices and avoid activities that harm the environment and the masses as well. Frequent road accidents have increased in Phase 8 of Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area. However, no action has been taken to control the situation. On the contrary, barricades have been placed at certain places that are not visible at night, making the commute hazardous. It is suggested that speed limit boards and stop signs be placed across all roads and intersections in the said area.
