Indus Eagle Squad launched in Sukkur

SUKKUR: The city’s municipal corporation and Sukkur police on Wednesday jointly launched the Indus Eagle Squad to ensure peace on the streets, eliminate narcotics trade, eradicate social evils and uproot encroachments in the city. Sukkur Mayor Barrister Arsalan Islam Sheikh and Sukkur police’s chief SSP Amjad Sheikh signed a memorandum of understanding on the joint venture of Indus Eagle Squad, which was formally launched at a ceremony at Police Madagar-15 offices. MNA Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, who was one of the chief guests at the ceremony, said maintenance of law and order was crucial for the wellbeing and prosperity of citizens. A stable and secure environment attracted encouraged businesses, growth and development of a city, he said. Mayor Arsalan Islam Sheikh said that the squad consisted of 60 personnel, including 20 anti-encroachment staff of the municipal corporation, which had provided 30 motorcycles to the squad, enabling it to monitor the city 24/7. He said that the squad would soon have female personnel as well. The primary objective of the squad was to improve and maintain law and order in the city, he said, adding its responsibilities included eliminating street crime and narcotics trade and removing encroachments in the city. Sukkur SSP Amjad Sheikh said that the squad would make the city safer, facilitate surveillance and timely action against crime, narcotics trade and social evils. He said the squad would improve patrolling and help eliminate motorcycle snatching. In the second phase, the squad would be integrated with CCTV system in order to enhance its surveillance and response capabilities, he said.
