UN Security Council to hold session on ending Gaza, Lebanon conflicts

The UN Security Council is set to hold a briefing session on Nov 18 under the item “The Situation in the Middle East”, entitled “Ending the War and Securing a Lasting Peace”, chaired by UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, according to . The UK, which chairs the Council this month, has prepared a concept note for Monday’s session, which states that ending the conflict in the Gaza and Lebanon, and focusing on ensuring a broader regional calm through an end to the conflict. According to the concept note, the session provides an opportunity to reflect on how the Council can “inject renewed momentum into efforts to end conflicts in the region, and to discuss how the end of the conflict could represent a turning point that would put the region on the path to a stable and secure future based on a two-state solution”.
