Ajoka to perform Bala King at FLF

LAHORE: Ajoka will perform its entertaining and politically relevant play, Bala King, at the Faisalabad Literary Festival (FLF) on Nov 30, Shahid Nadeem told Dawn. The drama is a Punjabi adaptation of German playwright Brecht’s play based on Hitler’s rise to power. In Shahid Nadeem’s adaptation, originally directed by late Madeeha Gauhar, Bala Pehlawan from inner city enters politics and rises to power using intimidation, bribery and oratory. The cast includes Usman Raj, Shehzad Sadiq, Muzammil Shabbir, Azka Latif, Rai Kamran, Haifa Ebrahim, Shujaat Haider, Bilal Mughal, Rabil, Jazib, Anish, Meesam and Luke. Ajoka also plans to hold a theatre award ceremony to honour theatre artists as a part of Ajoka’s 40th Anniversary concluding event. A new documentary on Ajoka will also be premiered on the occasion. The event will be held at Alhamra, in the third week of December.
