ISLAMABAD: Islamic scholars, academicians and judges have underlined the need for devising proper and effective strategies to save civilian population from the devastating effects of armed conflicts in different regions of the world. Gathered at a National Conference on ‘Protection of Civilians in Armed Conflict: Islamic Perspective and Role of the Judiciary’, the speakers said civilians were always at the receiving end of warring groups and countries. There must be preemptive efforts to protect innocent unarmed people from the threats of war, they added. Speaking on the occasion, Nicolas Lambert, Head of Delegation (ICRC), said that, keeping in view the state of war in different countries, it was very critical to enhance protection of civilians. He emphasised the need for a methodology to enhance protection for the civilian population. Appreciating the partnership-cooperation with the Federal Judicial Academy for the intellectualisation and capacity building, he said: “It has been a wonderful journey.” The Federal Judicial Academy has arranged this national conference in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) which is being attended by 60 Islamic scholars, academicians and judges – both males and females –hailing from the judiciary, universities, training academies and research organisations.
