SARGODHA: An influential landlord, Rafiq, allegedly humiliated a 60-year-old labourer, Bashir, accusing him of molesting his niece in Chak 34-SB of Karana, Sargodha. The police said Rafiq and his accomplices publicly humiliated Bashir by shaving his head, mustache and eyebrows, blackened his face and paraded him on a donkey. Following the viral video of the act, police registered a case against 20 suspects and arrested eight of them. The police launched an investigation. District Police Officer Dr Asad Ijaz Malhi assured that all suspects would be apprehended and brought to justice. KIDNAPPER HELD: The main suspect in the abduction of two students from a girls’ degree college in Sargodha has been sent to jail on judicial remand. The incident, which occurred on October 2 last, involved the broad daylight kidnapping of 17-year-old Musfra Nadeem of Faisal Town and 19-year-old Ishrat Islam of Mohammadi Colony from Chandni Chowk area of Sargodha city. The Urban Area police recovered the girls, handed them over to their families, and arrested suspect Yahya. Separate cases under section 365B of Pakistan Penal Code were registered. Further investigations are ongoing. ARRESTED: Sargodha police arrested Nadir, alias Nadro, of of Abu Wala, Chak 84-NB, a hardened criminal, during a chase and gunfight near Shahpur Sadar. Nadir, involved in multiple thefts and robberies, was injured in the encounter. The police said they had set up a picket near Dorewala on Sargodha-Khushab Road when four people riding two motorcycles avoided the picket and took cover in a pit near Bhakar Bar. When challenged, they started firing. Two motorcycles, a pistol and cash were recovered from him. His accomplices managed to escape and police are working to arrest them. The injured suspect was shifted to the hospital. COMPLAINT CELL: A new control room has been established by the Sargodha Municipal Corporation to address citizens’ complaints round the clock. Acting Chief Officer Umar Farooq stated that resources are being optimised to improve municipal services. He urged staff to perform their duties with honesty and continue efforts to eliminate encroachments without discrimination. VISIT: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is scheduled to visit Sargodha on Wednesday. She will distribute cheques to students under the ‘Honhar Scholarship Program,e’ at the University of Sargodha. She will also inspect the under-construction Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology and meet political figures and assembly members at the Circuit House.
