MUZAFFARGARH: Two persons were injured seriously when police officials opened fire on them at a checkpoint near Kazmi Chowk in Lal Eesan police precincts. Layyah District Police Officer (DPO) Ali Waseem ordered the immediate arrest of the police officials and registration of a case against them under sections 324 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). According to a police spokesperson, the checkpoint at Kazmi Chowk had been established because of rising incidents of theft and robbery in the area. ASI Tariq Masood and Constable Ghulam Mustafa stopped motorcyclists at the checkpoint on suspicion. However, when the motorcyclists did not stop, the police officials opened fire, resulting in injuries to Tahir and Mushtaq. Both injured were critically wounded and were transferred to Nishtar Hospital, Multan, for treatment. A case of attempted murder was registered against the police officials and they were arrested in accordance with legal procedures.
