Man held for ‘raping’ ex-wife

OKARA: Police claimed to have arrested a man who allegedly raped his former wife, a mother of four, at her house in Ayub Park locality of the city on Sunday night. As per the first information report (FIR), the suspect, a resident of Chak 26/2R, had married ‘A’and the couple had four children. However, after developing differences with his wife, the suspect divorced her. After being divorced, ‘A’ started living in Ayub Park with her four children, while the suspect contracted second marriage. The FIR reads that on Jan 5, the suspect, along with his second wife, arrived at ‘A’ house to see the children. However,on the pretext of foggy weather, he requested ‘A’ to allow him to stay at her house for the night. The FIR says that around midnight, the suspect allegedly entered ‘A’s room and raped her. ‘A’ immediately informed his brother of the incident, who called police on 15 helpline. By the time a team an A Division police, led bySub Inspector Amanat Mirza, reached thespot, the suspect fled away. On the report of ‘A’, the police registered a case against the suspect under section 376 of thePPC and arrested the suspect. TENT-PEGGING CONTEST: A two-day tent-pegging competition organised here by the district administration was won by a team from Sahiwal on Tuesday. The second position was also bagged by a Sahiwal-based team, while a team from Lahore clinched the third position. As many 40 teams, comprising 120 players from across the province participated in the contest that was watched by a large number of spectators at a special field prepared along Lower Bari Doaab Canal on the city suburbs. On the final day of the contest, MNA Chaudhry Riazul Haq Juj and Commisioner Syed Shoaib Iqbal were the chief guests, while MPA Mian Muhammad Munir, DC Muhammad Usman Javid and DPO Muhammad Raashid Hidayat were also present. The first position was bagged by Ghazi Abbas Club, Sahiwal, while’ Khagga Ravi Neza Baz Club, Sahiwal, stood second and A Gardens Club, Lahore, clinched the third position. The winning teams were awarded trophies and shields by the chief guests.
