KARACHI: Over 50 persons were rescued after a fire erupted in a commercial building in Clifton on Thursday, police and rescuers said. The Boat Basin police said that the fire broke out in Park Towers due to a ‘short circuit’. A Rescue-1122 official said that the blaze broke out in the third floor of the building, where mostly corporate offices were located. He said that around 50-60 people who were stuck due to smoke were rescued and brought down to the first floor with the help of a ladder. He said that three fire tenders managed to control the inferno. In less than three weeks, another fire erupted in Rimpa Plaza on Thursday. However, no casualties were reported. This is the second time in a month the building has experienced a fire incident. On December 3, flames gutted the fourth and fifth floor of the 13-story building, while partially destroying the sixth and seventh floors. No casualties were reported. Thursday’s fire broke out on the second floor, where disposable goods were being stored. The Rescue 1122 official said apparently the fire erupted when someone threw a cigarette there. He said that four fire tenders and one snorkel were dispatched to the scene, where firefighters managed to douse the blaze.
