ISLAMABAD: The Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad will host a one-day International Conference
ISLAMABAD: The Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad will host a one-day International Conference titled “Celebrating Pakistan’s Ancient Archaeological and Civilisational Heritage” on September 30. In a statement issued here, ISSI said that Pakistan, as a cradle of ancient civilisations, was home to millennia-old heritage, including the Indus Valley and Buddhist Gandhara civilizations. Its iconic archaeological sites, such as Mohenjo-Daro, Harappa, Taxila, Swat, and Takht-e-Bahi, reflected a rich historical legacy. The Indus Valley Civilisation, contemporaneous with Egypt and Babylon, and the Gandhara Civilisation, known for its unique Buddhist art, were key highlights. With six Unesco World Heritage Sites and a vast collection of historical artifacts, Pakistan’s cultural impact extended globally. The conference would bring together experts and policymakers to discuss strategies for enhancing global awareness of Pakistan’s heritage, focusing on preservation, conservation, and promoting sustainable tourism. Sessions would explore technical, scholarly, and cultural aspects of the country’s rich history, fostering interfaith dialogue and harmony. Participants would also examine tourism models and international best practices aimed at preserving cultural sites while supporting local economies and encouraging cultural exchanges. The gathering of international and Pakistani scholars, archaeologists, and experts would underscore the significance of Pakistan’s ancient heritage and explore ways to leverage it for sustainable tourism development.
