CHITRAL: A couple from Chitral and the United States tied the knot on Wednesday in the Mroi village here after meeting on social media three years ago. The villagers warmly welcomed the couple along with the American bride’s mother after they reached the area after solemnising nikkah in Chitral city. Khateeb of Shahi Masjid Maulana Khaleequz Zaman, who performed nikkah, told Dawn that Sara Marie embraced Islam before marrying Shahad Hussain. He said the Rs10,000 haq mahar was paid by the groom to the bride immediately after they signed marriage documents. Hussain, 20, told Dawn that he “accidentally” met Marie, 18, online on April 25, 2022, while playing the popular game PUBG. He said the interaction turned into a friendship and in the next few months, they decided to marry after Marie reached the legal age of 18. The groom, who passed the intermediate examination last year and is still a student, said he was extremely delighted to have realised his marriage dream, while the bride was equally happy. “Marie is deeply impressed by the warm reception and hospitality accorded to her by people here,” he said.
