HYDERABAD: Sindh Taraqqi-pasand Party (STP) chairman Dr Qadir Magsi has warned that when provinces’ reservations are not taken seriously and decisions are merely thrust upon them it leads to instability and serious consequences for the country. Dr Magsi said at a meeting of the party’s central committee here on Monday as long as all federating units were treated in the like manner and with justice this country would keep facing crisis after crisis. He said that rulers should realise the gravity of the situation before taking such pernicious and self-destructive steps. The project for the construction of six canals over Indus River was a death trap for Sindh because these canals would completely destroy the province if they were built, he cautioned. He said that Indus was the only source of survival for Sindh, which would never accept this project. The STP’s protest would continue till the federal government rescinded this decision, he said. Meanwhile, the meeting appointed Gulzar Soomro as vice chairman of the party and decided to form committees for organising rally in Karachi on Dec 8 against the canals project.
