Policeman killed, colleague hurt in dacoits’ attack on picket

SUKKUR: A police constable was killed and his colleague was wounded when a gang of dacoits attacked their picket within the jurisdiction of Gadpur police station in Panu Aqil taluka late on Sunday night. Police officials said the dacoits rained bullets on the police post with automatic weapons and managed to escape before reinforcements arrived. Constable Arbelo Chachar died in the attack and his colleague Raza Mohammad Magsi sustained critical injuries. The body and the wounded were shifted to hospital, said police officials. The slain constable’s funeral prayer was held at Police Lines, Sukkur, in which DIG Faisal Abdullah Chachar, SSP Amjad Ahmed Sheikh, Sector Wing Commander Brig. Nadeem, police officers, members of the bereaved family and a large number of citizens participated. A police squad saluted the coffin of the fallen colleague before his body was taken to local graveyard for burial. Later, talking to media persons, the police officers said that the department was proud of the officers and Jawans who had sacrificed their lives to establish peace in the district. They said that their sacrifice would never go in vain as they were martyred in the line of duty. The morale of police was high and operation against dacoits would continue with full force till complete peace was restored in the district, they vowed.
