MISSING SPEECHES

MISSING SPEECHES: On the website of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP), speeches by outgoing chief justices delivered at the references held on the eve of their retirement were made avail-able earlier. However, the practice was discontinued long ago. The said speeches allowed people to know what had been the experience of the chief justice at the apex court and what his contributions were during his term in office. I requested the officials concerned twice on the relevant email address (mail@supreme- court.gov.pk) to resume this practice, but have not received any response. The SCP should consider uploading the speeches again for the benefit of all. Government offices often display different portraits of Quaid-i-Azam, based on their personal preferences. While it is essential to honour the Father of the Nation, the lack of uniformity in the selection of his portraits undermines the dignity of this practice, and is in conflict with the message of unity and national cohesion the Quaid advocated. To ensure a sense of uniformity and discipline, the government should approve and issue a standardised portrait of Quaid-i-Azam to be displayed in all government offices. This simple measure will reflect national solidarity. Balochistan has been lagging behind other provinces in the realm of education, and a lack of opportunities to avail scholarships is impacting the lives of students. As such, the Wadh campus of Lasbela University of Agriculture, Water and Marine Sciences (LUAWMS) does not provide scholarships to the deserving students. Many students have been requesting the university for the same since its inception, but their pleas have fallen on deaf ears. Three batches of students have graduated without a single scholarship. The administration apparently wants to keep the underprivileged away from education. The vice-chancellor should revisit the matter.
