GUJRAT: Four members of a family, including two women and an infant, were injured when a fire broke out in the kitchen of their house due to a gas cylinder leak in Gurala village on the outskirts of the city on Saturday. Rescue 1122 said that the wooden structure inside the kitchen caught fire due to the gas leakage, resulting in severe injuries to the family members. The injured include 65-year-old Muhammad Asif, his 23-year-old daughter Sundas, his 26-year-old daughter-in-law Arsha Bibi, and her one-year-old son Yawar. All the injured were shifted to the burn unit of Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital (ABSTH), where the condition of both women is reported to be critical due to over 80pc superficial burns. A 54-year-old man, Shabeer Ahmed, died by stepping in front of a moving train near Saen Raja railway crossing. Rescue officials shifted the body to ABSTH. Meanwhile, a fatal road accident along Fatehpur Road claimed the life of a 24-year-old youth and injured three others. Reports suggest that Qasim, of Shahpur, was riding a motorbike with his friend Bilal when they collided with a vehicle. Qasim died at the scene, while Bilal, Nagis (40), and her seven-year-old son Shaffay were injured. The deceased and injured were transported to ABSTH.
