KHYBER: Agitated tribesmen in Jamrud tehsil took matters into their own hands by forcibly disconnecting power supply to all commercial feeders and redirecting the electricity to domestic consumers in an effort to alleviate loadshedding in their homes. Led by Kukikhel elders, protesters staged a demonstration and took control of the Jamrud grid station, cutting off power supply to all commercial areas. Addressing the protesters, Malak Naseer Ahmad Kukikhel stated that grid station officials had reneged on their promise to provide four hours of electricity to domestic consumers and had instead increased loadshedding durations with the onset of winter. He accused the grid station staff of redirecting electricity meant for domestic use to industrial units, violating the commitment made with the Kukikhel tribe a few months ago. The protesters warned that they would block the Peshawar-Torkham highway indefinitely if their electricity supply issues were not resolved.
