LAHORE: Rawalpindi and Bahawalpur played out an exciting draw in Islamabad as the fourth round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy matches concluded on Saturday. Chasing a tough 302 in 56 overs on the final day, Rawalpindi reached a comfortable 140-1 before they slipped to 166-6 in the Group B game at the Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium. After a flurry of wickets, Atif Khan (25 not out) and Aqib Shah (16 not out) faced a combined total of 76 balls to defy Bahawalpur what would have been a dramatic victory. Earlier in the day, Bahawalpur played 33 overs to take their overnight score of 258-4 to 392-7. Another thrilling draw was witnessed in the Group C match between Quetta and Fata at the Railway Cricket Ground in Haripur as only 17.2 overs of play was possible during the last session of the final day due to overnight rain. Quetta evaded an imminent innings loss when they managed to sneak away with 118-8 in their second innings while still trailing by 38 runs — after having conceded a massive 156-rin first-innings lead — when the match ended in a stalemate. After resuming their second innings at 66-2, Quetta barely managed to avoid a defeat thanks to some resilient batting in the end by Bismillah Khan (seven not out off 32 balls) and Mohammad Idrees (zero not out off nine balls). Arshadullah (4-32) proved most lethal for Fata. Sialkot were made to follow on by Lahore Blues at the Gohati Cricket Stadium in Swabi but their Group C match ended in a draw. After resuming their first innings at 225-7, Sialkot posted 263 all out. Mohammad Waleed scored his maiden first-class century (109). Following on, they ended the day at 185-4 to take a slim nine-run lead with Mohsin Riaz (42 not out) and Mohammad Waleed (19) defying Lahore Blues any chance to further dent the batting order. The Group B affair between Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Karachi Whites also ended in a draw at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium. Pursuing a 228-run victory target, AJK posted 112 for five in 37 overs before the action concluded. Multan’s Imam-ul-Haq scored his 13th first-class century against Peshawar as the game ended in yet another stalemate at the Ashfaq Cricket Ground, Sirdheri in Charsadda. Left-handed Imam, who struck 60 in the first innings, was retired hurt at 105 in Multan’s second innings as only 51 overs could be bowled during the day with the team posting 233-3.
