KARACHI: Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi on Friday reviewed the progress on beautification and rehabilitation of the city’s major roads. A meeting, chaired by Mr Naqvi, focussed on Sharea Faisal, I.I. Chundrigar Road, Shahrah-i-Quaiden and Marine Promenade. The commissioner directed officials to expedite the repair and maintenance of roads and footpaths across the city, including improving utility chambers to alleviate the difficulties faced by pedestrians on footpaths at I.I. Chundrigar Road and other locations. The meeting also reviewed measures to cover manholes, repair utility chambers, install streetlights, relocate garbage dumps from prominent locations, and ensure cleanliness throughout the city. During the meeting, all deputy commissioners (DCs) presented plans and ongoing projects for their respective districts to improve civic amenities. DC-West Ahmed Ali Siddiqui highlighted Manghopir Road and Shahrah-i-Orangi, while DC-Central Taha Saleem, focussed on Shahrah-i-Pakistan and Allama Rashid Turabi Road. DC-East Abrar Jaffar identified Sharea Faisal as the key road in his district, while DC-South Altaf Sario focussed on I.I. Chundrigar Road. Similarly, the DCs of Keamari, Malir and Korangi districts highlighted important roads in their districts where work was underway. The meeting was informed that patchwork was underway on Shahrah-i-Pakistan, Sher Shah Suri Road, and Allama Rashid Turabi Road. KDA Chowrangi in North Nazimabad was being beautified with the support of the Bohra community, while the Model Market in the district and a park at AO Clinic are planned to be undertaken with the help of the town administration, the commissioner was told.
