SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: A protest by employees of district headquarters hospital Wana over non-payment of salaries entered the third week. The hospital employees complain of facing financial difficulties for not having their monthly salaries. Their protest resulted in suspension of medical services in the hospital except for emergency department. The protesters held placards inscribed with their demands and marched from the administrative block to the emergency block, raising slogans against the provincial government. Medical Superintendent Dr Hammad Mahmood also participated in the demonstration and stated that the hospital employees had made significant efforts for the hospital’s improvement, but non-cooperation of the provincial health department had led to disillusionment among the medical staff. The hospital employees’ action committee has warned the government that if their demands were not met, the scope of the protest would be widened. The hospital’s medical superintendent urged the provincial government to release funds to hospital on emergency basis to reduce the problems of patients and solve the issue of employees’ salaries.
