BAJAUR: Jamaat-i-Islami local leaders on Friday urged people from across the merged districts to make active participation in the party’s tribal peace jirga to be held in Peshawar on Sept 25 to take up the burning issues the erstwhile Fata is confronted with. Addressing a news conference here, JI Bajaur deputy chief Qari Abdul Majeed, general secretary Mohammad Hamid, JI Khyber leader Shah Faisal Afridi and JI Mohamad general secretary Naweed Ali said the jirga would take up the poor law and order situation, growing targeted killings, lack of basic facilities and prolonged delay in award of the promised three per cent share in the National Finance Commission to the tribal districts. The JI leaders claimed that most provisions of the 25th Constitutional Amendment, through which the ex-Fata was merged with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, were yet to be implemented. They held both the federal and provincial governments responsible for the delay in allocation of the promised NFC share to the merged districts. They said law and order situation in the tribal districts was precarious, but both the federal and provincial government had yet to show their seriousness over the issue. On the occasion, Faisal Afridi noted that as per the country’s Constitution, the safety and security of the lives of the residents and their properties was the government’s responsibility, but the latter had failed to fulfill its role. The JI leaders said the jirga would be addressed by the party’s central chief Hafiz Naeemur Rahman besides scores of party leaders from across the province. They said that several provincial and central leaders of other political and religious parties were also expected to participate in the jirga. They urged the people of the tribal districts to make the gathering a success by ensuring their active participation in it.
