Programme to ‘empower teachers as change agents’ concludes

LAHORE: The University of Education (UE) in collaboration with University of Birmingham, UK, on Thursday concluded Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programme on “Cultivating global citizenship: Empowering teachers to become change agents in Pakistan”. This project, funded by the Birmingham Institutional Impact Fund, has been carried out in collaboration with esteemed community partners: the Academic Leadership Innovation Firm (ALIF), the School Education Department, Punjab, and the Ali Institute of Education (AIE), and The Knowledge of the Art Academy, Lahore. The project was led by Dr. Meng Tian (Associate Professor in Educational Leadership, Director Global Engagement, Colleges of Social Sciences, University of Birmingham, UK) and co-led by Dr. Naima Qureshi, Assistant Professor in Education from University of Education, Lahore. In the project, successfully trained 65 pre-service and in-service teachers from 18 different schools and universities across Lahore, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, values, attitudes, and pedagogical approaches needed to deliver global citizenship education. These teachers have since become agents of change, co-designing and delivering global citizenship projects and lesson //plans to students in local schools and communities. During 2024, around 9,750 students enhanced their global competencies as the result of this project. In the message of appreciation, Dr. Meng Tian (Project Lead, University of Birmingham, UK) and Dr. Naima Qureshi (Project co-lead), University of Education, expressed their acknowledgement and admiration for teachers’ efforts and thanked all the participating teachers and organisers who made this event a success.UET SYNDICATE: University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Vice Chancellor Prof Shahid Munir (TI) presided over the 494th meeting of the syndicate. Prominent attendees included Justice Baqar Najafi, retired Justice Nazir Ahmad Ghazi, Dr. Nasir Hayat, Mujahid Pervaiz Chatha, MPA Engineer Shoaib Siddiqui, Sajida Windal, Muhammad Mazhar Saeed, Shahida Asghar, Mir Raza Azgan, Dr. Naveed Ramzan, Dr. Shazia Arshad, Dr. Rizwan Saeed, Dr. Adnan Maqbool, Ahmed Naveed, Dr. Sadaf, and Registrar Muhammad Asif. During the meeting, the UET treasurer briefed the members on the university’s financial affairs. The attendees were informed that admissions in both engineering and non-engineering departments are being conducted strictly based on merit, adhering to the guidelines set by PEC, HEC, and the Computing Council, with no compromise on standards. The VC emphasised collective efforts to restore UET’s former glory, stating, “Together, we will bring back the greatness of UET.”
